Protesters' message to Netanyahu ahead of speech: You're not welcome here
Tensions are high among crowds of protesters who are gathering outside the White House to send a message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of his speech to Congress Wednesday: They don’t want him here, and they’re not pleased he was invited.
With security ramped up, people from many coalitions with a variety of messages are making speeches, carrying signs and waving flags.
“We’re here today because Congress has issued a bipartisan invitation to Benjamin Netanyahu, a war criminal who has presided over more than nine months of genocide and has obliterated every red line in international humanitarian law,” Kaleem Hawa from the Palestinian Youth Movement told CNN’s Brian Todd Wednesday.
“Fundamentally, this is political theater,” he said. “Netanyahu knows how to play the audience in Congress. He’s here to make to make reassurances to them that everything is under control, but one and the people around the world have seen very clearly that things are not under control.”
