16 years old? WOW! German 16-year-olds to cast first votes in EU elections As Germany's 16- and 17-year-olds wait for a train these days, they're regularly faced with numerous posters designed especially with them in mind. The 1,000 posters are part of a nationwide competition to encourage young people to vote in the European electionsbefore polls close on June 9. One of the winning posters has the ambiguous slogan "First kiss, first time, first vote" and was created by media design students Maja Steinbach, Maria Viktoria Junker and Fabian Navarro. "We want to show that the election is a positive, exciting experience, that you can try something new," they told DW. www.dw.com/en/german-16-year-olds-to-cast-first-votes-in-eu-elections/a-69042247

I know why open borders that tick off average Euros Europe veers right but centre-ground resists: What the EU election results mean and what's next The pro-European parties at the centre command a majority, despite voters veering to the right. But Ursula von der Leyen's path to re-election is fraught with difficulties. Around 185 million voters across 27 EU countries have had their say, and right-wing parties have seen support creep up in all corners of the continent, tilting the balance of power in the European Parliament. But the projected surge in support for far-right parties was not as pronounced as some had expected, meaning that if there is sufficient political will, the pro-European coalition at the centre will hold. Although more strained than ever before, the so-called ‘grand coalition’ between the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP), the centre-left Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and the liberal Renew Europe group secured 403 lawmakers - around 56% of all seats - between them, according to Monday morning's estimates. www.euronews.com/my-europe/2024/06/10/europe-veers-right-but-centre-ground-resists-what-the-eu-election-results-mean-and-whats-n

Yeah for NOWWW LOL! EU election: Germany rules out snap election after AfD gains German government rejects calls for snap election Germany will not hold a snap election as demanded by the opposition despite bruising EU election results for all three parties in the ruling coalition, the spokesman for Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said. Steffen Hebestreit rejected calls from Bavaria's state premier, Markus Söder, to follow in the footsteps of French President Emmanuel Macron, who announced parliamentary elections late on Sunday after suffering his own defeat. "The election date is next fall as planned, and we plan to follow that through," Hebestreit said, also pointing to Germany and France's different political systems. A call for snap elections also came from Alice Weidel, the co-leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which saw a surge in support at the elections for the European Parliament. www.dw.com/en/eu-elections-2024-afd-germany-cdu-csu/live-69318858

Well just minute ago that Belijum PM went to King for tell him he going resign Belgium's PM De Croo resigns after election defeat Belgium's Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has announced his resignation after disappointing federal and regional election results. "This is is a very difficult evening for us. We have lost this election," De Croo told supporters, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye. His Flemish liberal party, Open VLD, is projected to lose almost half its seats in the Chamber of Representatives. Sunday's vote in the linguistically divided country, which is split between Dutch-speaking Flanders in the north and French-speaking Wallonia in the south, was held on the same day as the European Parliament elections. OHH EU don't want anything to do with madame PM of Italy EPP won't seek formal deal with Meloni, says secretary general. But case-by-case work is possible The Green Deal has been "too ideologically driven" and needs to be rethought to emphasise the "competition angle," says Thanasis Bakolas. The centre-right European People's Party will not seek to strike a formal deal with Giorgia Meloni and her hard-right European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group, neither to re-elect Ursula von der Leyen nor to underpin a governing majority in the next mandate, the EPP's secretary general said a day after the elections. The polls saw the EPP conquer with 186 seats, far ahead of the 135 obtained by the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group and the 79 of the liberal Renew Europe. "The EPP will seek to form a majority in the European Parliament with friends and allies that we have worked before with the Socialists, with the Liberals, hopefully also maybe with the Greens. And the numbers are there for such a majority, and that's good," Thanasis Bakolas told Euronews on Monday afternoon. www.euronews.com/my-europe/2024/06/10/epp-wont-seek-formal-deal-with-meloni-says-secretary-general-but-case-by-case-work-is-poss

WHOA it getting crazy in France Fury among EU lawmakers as French conservative leader opens up to far-right National Rally Éric Ciotti's surprise move fuels fear that Europe's mainstream right is dismantling the firewall that has kept the far right in check. Centrist and left-leaning EU lawmakers have lashed out at the decision of the president of the French conservative The Republicans party, Éric Ciotti, to form an alliance with the far-right National Rally (RN) of Marine Le Pen ahead of snap legislative elections. Ciotti’s move, announced earlier on Tuesday, has been slated as a dismantling of the so-called sanitary cordon that has kept radical right-wing forces out of power in France, days after Europe’s right wing made gains in the election to the European Parliament. Marine Le Pen hailed it a “courageous decision” as she hopes to unite France’s right-wing in the run-up to the snap ballot abruptly convened by President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday after RN swept to victory in the European vote. www.euronews.com/my-europe/2024/06/11/fury-among-eu-lawmakers-as-french-conservative-leader-opens-up-to-far-right-national-rally

Some of the EU parties members are not happy right now To be (there) or not to be? Brussels at odds over von der Leyen's presence at key job talks EU leaders meeting in Brussels next week will start discussing who should get top jobs, including the Commission chief role Ursula von der Leyen has been holding for five years and would like to extend for another term. Should Ursula von der Leyen take part in an EU leaders’ meeting where they will discuss her possible reappointment as Commission president? That’s the latest conundrum seemingly tearing the European Council and Commission apart. EU leaders are scheduled to meet for an informal dinner on June 17 to discuss the next five-year institutional cycle and crucially, who should get coveted EU top jobs such as the next presidents of the European Council, Parliament and Commission as well as the next High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security policy. www.euronews.com/my-europe/2024/06/11/to-be-there-or-not-to-be-brussels-at-odds-over-von-der-leyens-presence-at-key-job-talks
