Guess who in China Putin's visit to China: Here's what you should know Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to China on Thursday could spell trouble for the West. Back in March 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping addressed each other as "dear friends". It appears not much has changed. During Putin's visit to China on Thursday, Xi said, "the China-Russia relationship today is hard-earned, and the two sides need to cherish and nurture it." www.euronews.com/2024/05/16/putins-visit-to-china-heres-what-you-should-know

Of course he thanking them Putin thanks Xi for China's initiatives on Ukraine Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday told his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, that Russia was advancing "on all fronts" in Ukraine. Still, Putin said he was "grateful" to China for trying to find a solution to the war in Ukraine. "We are grateful to our Chinese friends and colleagues for the initiatives they are putting forward to resolve this problem," Putin said, speaking along side Xi. The EU and the US had recently called on Xi to use his influence to pressure Putin to end the war in Ukraine. The Russian president made the remarks during a two-day state visit to China, his first trip abroad since the latest elections in Russia. www.dw.com/en/putin-thanks-xi-for-chinas-initiatives-on-ukraine/a-69091646

I think I know why How China helps keep Russia's economy afloat Days after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the West foisted deep sanctions on Moscow in the hopes of hurting Russia's ability to finance the conflict. The sanctions targeted politicians and oligarchs, froze foreign reserves, curbed access to Western technology and cut Russian banks off from the Swift international payment messaging system. The financial penalties were widely expected to bring Russia to its knees. Initially, the ruble plummeted in value and the Russian economy contracted by 1.2% in 2022. Last year, however, Russia's growth outpaced both the United States and Europe at 3.6%. The country is on course for another strong year in 2024. Much of that growth came in the way of trade with China, which acted as a counterweight to the West by refusing to impose sanctions and becoming a major buyer of Russian energy. Despite pressure from the US and the European Union, the two countries have formed a deeper alliance since www.dw.com/en/how-china-is-helping-keep-the-russian-economy-afloat/a-69072142
