Khamenei: Deal or No Deal, Iran Will 'Shut' US Out
By Arutz Sheva Staff 8/17/2015
The fate of Iran's nuclear deal with world powers is still undecided but it will not leave the country open to US influence, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Monday.
Khamenei, the country's highest authority, said in a statement quoted on his website that Tehran would block any US attempt to influence Iran despite the historic accord.
"They think that through this agreement - the fate of which is not clear as no one knows if it will be approved here or in America - they could find a way to intrude into the country," Khamenei said.
"We have closed such a path and will decisively shut it. We'll allow neither economic nor political nor cultural intrusion by the United States."
The deal, reached in Vienna last month, must still be ratified by the US Congress and could face the need for parliamentary approval in Iran.
Khamenei, quoted as speaking to members of the Islamic Radio and Television Union in Tehran, also accused the United States of trying to "infiltrate" the Middle East.
"They seek the disintegration of Syria and Iraq, (but) with God's help it will not happen," he said.
Khamenei's remarks reflected Tehran's continued deep hatred of the United States, despite his backing President Hassan Rouhani in reaching a deal.

Iran begins blockade of US imports
By Ari Yashar 11/3/2015
US President Barack Obama just two weeks ago began lifting sanctions on Iran in the wake of the nuclear deal, and in response Iran has initiated an economic step of its own - a blockade of US imports.
Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade announced on Saturday via the official PressTV that it has begun acting on Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's orders issued in a letter last month, and is implementing the blockade.
Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, who is tasked with the ministry, said in the announcement, "we will implement the blockade on imports of American goods in a directive."
That directive was issued by Khamanei in a letter in late October to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Nematzadeh noted the letter included an outline for creating an "economy of resistance" and blockading US goods to be economically independent as part of Khamenei's conditional approval of the nuclear deal.
Khamenei ordered the Iranian government to avoid "unbridled imports," and fastidiously monitor US imports. In response, Rouhani wrote back that he would follow Khamenei's orders.
However, there appears to be at least two major American companies that won't be affected by the blockade - Coca-Cola and Pepsi.
Both "have local bottlers and distributors in Iran, but they say they have nothing to do with the American brands," according to the Iranian state press.

Thousands of flag-burning Iranians mark US embassy seizure
By AFP November 4, 2015
Chanting “Death to America” and burning the US flag, thousands of Iranians joined protests Wednesday marking the 36th anniversary of the seizure of Washington’s embassy in Tehran.
The outpouring of anti-US sentiment came despite a landmark nuclear deal between Iran and major powers including Washington in July.
The storming of the embassy by students, months after the Islamic revolution, led to a 444-day hostage crisis and a break in diplomatic relations that continues to this day.
Demonstrators gathered outside the former US embassy in Tehran and across Iran for what was declared “national day of the fight against global arrogance” — a term often used by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Protesters held placards with slogans including “Down with USA” and “Down with Israel.”

Iran's leader says U.S. still hostile after nuclear deal
By Sam Wilkin Mar 20, 2016
The United States is still fundamentally hostile to Iran and its policies have undermined the benefits of sanctions relief, the Islamic Republic's hardline leader said on Sunday, warning Iranians not to trust their old enemy.
Ringing in a new Iranian year at a televised rally in the Shi'ite holy city of Mashhad, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said fear of U.S. regulations was keeping big foreign companies, particularly in the financial sector, away from Iran.
The uncompromising stance of Iran's most senior figure poses a challenge to President Hassan Rouhani, the architect of last year's nuclear deal who hopes to open Iran's economy to the world.
In keeping with the deal, many international sanctions on Iran were lifted in January. Since then foreign business delegations have flocked to Tehran and billions of dollars of deals have been signed.

Iran threatens US with legal action over terror compensation
By Marissa Newman April 25, 2016
Iran threatens Monday to take legal action in the International Court of Justice against the United States if $2 billion in frozen funds are “diverted” to compensate victims of attacks.
On Thursday, Tehran said the US Supreme Court’s decision to deduct $2 billion from its frozen assets to compensate American victims of terror attacks amounted to theft.
“We hold the US administration responsible for preservation of Iranian funds and if they are plundered, we will lodge a complaint with the ICJ for reparation,” Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says.
He is speaking at a joint news conference with visiting Macedonian counterpart Nicolas Poposki.
The US Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that Iran must hand over nearly $2 billion in frozen assets to survivors and relatives of those killed in attacks blamed on the Islamic republic.
These included the 1983 bombing of a US Marine barracks in Beirut and the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia.
The decision affects more than 1,000 Americans.
