I'm not joking, I forgot what you all were talking about and had to go back to the previous page to find out. LOL!
I'm going to blame that on the heat, its currently 91 degrees outside here in NW FL. By-the-way that is the average high temp for this date here.

Oliver!!!!! Noooooo not 91!
Here on Oregon's north coast, the folks who live here year round, are practically off to the hospital with heat stroke, when the temps get past 75!!!!!
Okay, well maybe not, but the grumbling is probably heard where you live!
I think once every couple of years it might get close to 91 but then the next day, rain and back to 60's or maybe 71 or 72.

"Comfort, comfort My people," says your God. Isaiah 40:1
One might not get that, this is about 150 years or so, abrupt jump ahead in time.....
as IF, the Babylon captivity of the Jews, has already happened, and God instructs the prophet, to comfort the captives in a foreign land.
God will never fully abandon His people, in fact, He has very good plans and blessings ahead for them!
The repetition of comfort, gives an added emphasis, so they would have hope, and not faint, and thus soothe their many sorrows.
One might say, it is the beginning of 'good news' as is the gospel. God is still their God!
And here is some good news:
"Speak kindly to Jerusalem; And call out to her, that her warfare has ended, That her guilt has been removed, That she has received of the LORD'S hand Double for all her sins." Isaiah 40:2
Don't we all wish to be spoken to 'kindly'? I know I prefer that!
Their mourning will be changed to joy.
The timing of Israel warfare ending is not clear to me.... I know all countries, seem to have war, and then, times of peace.
Certainly in our time, right now, Israel is being bombarded by many terrorists and countries, and warfare...
But at least, in Jesus's 1000 year reign, there will be peace in Israel... so I am wondering, if this might also be a far distant future prophecy?
Nevertheless, God forgives her sins, having punished her, doubly. However, this is not saying the punishments, were MORE than the sins!
This reminds me of this verse:
My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:11-12
or this verse:
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Revelation 3:19

The voice of one calling out, "Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness; Make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Isaiah 40:3
On an earthly and historical level, this was an ancient practice, to clear all manner of obstacles and impediments, before a king traveled.
On a spiritual level, the obstacles, that needed to be repented of and removed were ( and are to this day) sins...
and the King, is Jesus.
So Historically, John the Baptist, was the forerunner, who was 'preparing the way', for the arrival of Jesus ( the first time He would come).
In one sense, I think we could look at the wilderness, as the world, and all the stumbling blocks, traps, lies, entertainments, and virtually all the entrapments of sin, to keep us wandering about in a spiritual dead desert, and away from the living water of life with Jesus.
"Let every valley be lifted up, And every mountain and hill be made low; And let the uneven ground become a plain, And the rugged terrain a broad valley; Isaiah 40:4
Again, this was historically, part of the preparation before a traveling king would come thru. Great efforts, time, and expense would be made, to make sure the road would be level, for the king to travel on.
Satan attempts to hinder both, Jesus as King, to travel to His people, and to put up impediments to keep people from coming to the Lord.
Of course, the devil is ultimately wasting time, and effort on this, because, God will always prevail.
Which basically explains the next verse:
Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, And all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken." Isaiah 40:5
The power of the Lord, will be displayed for all to see.
We know the end of the story, Satan loses ( actually he already has) and God wins ( He already has).
In the future 1000 year reign of King Jesus, His power and majesty will be seen by all, and in the new Heaven and Earth.
We can trust it, because God has said it in His Word.

A voice says, "Call out." Then he answered, "What shall I call out?" All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field. Isaiah 40:6
This points out, how temporary, transitory, and fading, our life on earth is.... it's kind of like: Here Today, Gone tomorrow!
As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer. Psalms 103:15,16
Notice, the prophet, does not just say anything, that randomly comes into his mind.... rather, he asks God what it is, that God wants him to say.
When God says for the prophet to call out, The prophet is not to whisper, or mutter, or mumble, but speak clearly and so people can hear.
And although a flower may have more beauty, as do some people and things, they are also passing away.
And thus this next verse:
The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the LORD blows upon it; The people are indeed grass! Isaiah 40:7
As it is with grass and flowers, so it is with mankind. All people fade away, and the power they think they have, is nothing compared to God.

It's been really hot here the last 3 days. It's been well over 100 each day. Two days ago it was 103. Yesterday it was 107. I think it only got to 101 today. Besides being over 100 it's also been extremely humid making it worse. We have had a day when it's been over 100 every once in a very great while. Once in 1994, it hit 100 on the day my oldest graduated high school. Then in 2009 it hit 104 when we took our two toddler grandchildren to see Thomas the Train. Those are the only two times it's been any where near this hot in all the years I've lived here. (since 1987). Thankfully tomorrow it's supposed to be 82 and feel like 89.

True! What's weird is that Friday was our last hot day. It went from being in the 100's to being only 65 yesterday! I loved it! Today it's thunderstorms though. It's supposed to get up to 93 today (way too hot for me still), but right now it's only 63, so we'll see..... But weather is sure messed up, that's for sure!

Well it is not a 'conspiracy' theory that there are companies, that seed clouds for more rain etc.
And who knows what else they are messing with weatherwise?
Humans think they are sooo smart, and they think they can be gods....
it could be just normal weather or folks messing with the weather or
God is putting humanity on notice that things ( weather among the 'things) are going to be changing big time soon-ish!

Oliver: Indeed! I try to be more careful, about touting a 'present' 'conspiracy theory', as 'true'...
but, once it is proven... or is almost certainly true....
Then,
I think, it may be time, to let the truth out!
Monkey, even has the names of the clouding seeding companies ( one can hire...for money)
So that makes it pretty clear, it is being done, and it is true, and.....not a conspiracy!
I suppose if one wanted to make it extra sure, they could go back, listen to his video where he gives the names of the companies, and give them a call, to see how much they charge etc.
But I have watched monkey for a LONG time now, I have listen to his Bible lessons I watch his videos..
so that, as much as it is possible to judge a person's character and if they are a Christian....
I believe he is truthful, honorable, knows his stuff and is a Christian.....
For example, I think the same of Dr. Jason Lisle
( a young earth Creationist, Astrophysicist....) (genius...)
He is obviously super brilliant!!! You don't get to be an Astrophysicist, and not be ubber smart...
but people can graduate with a PHD cum laude ( with praise)
or
Magna cum laude ( even greater praise than just plain cum laude)
or
the absolute highest praise which is what Dr. Lisle graduated...
Summa cum laude....
(that is the pinnacle... the very very very top.... of all praise!! There is no higher)
I think the same of Dr. John MacArthur Christian pastor, preacher, author etc.)
and so on.

Speaking of 'Truth', here is an 'eternal' truth!!!
The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8
God's word, the Bible ( scriptures) is eternal, permanent, last for ever and ever and ever!
for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:23
Everything else is fading and is transitory.
Go up on a high mountain, Zion, messenger of good news, Raise your voice forcefully, Jerusalem, messenger of good news; Raise it up, do not fear. Say to the cities of Judah, "Here is your God!" Isaiah 40:9
The prophet declares the good news of God being there! This would be joyful for the oppressed people. Again the prophet is not to be whimpy, and fearful, and whispered message; but to give a strong loud message to be heard.
Likewise, when we deliver the gospel, to someone, we are not full of fear, and mutter and mumble, and mummer, but to speak clearly, knowing God is with us.

Behold, the Lord GOD will come with might, With His arm ruling for Him. Behold, His compensation is with Him, And His reward before Him. Isaiah 40:10
When Jesus comes this time.... the 2nd time, I think...
because it will be with strength and power, to defeat any and all His enemies. There will also be rewards for His people.
He also will rule.
This is something worth waiting for!
Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in the fold of His robe; He will gently lead the nursing ewes. Isaiah 40:11
Such a beautiful, gentle, and tender love! His kind and compassionate love, is extended to even the weakest of His flock of believers.
This is especially encouraging to me, as I sometimes feel, very weak, on so many levels!
Jesus as a 'shepherd, does not cull the infirm, or weak ones, as many shepherds might do.
Speaking of being comforted, these next series of questions, ( and implied answers), point to God's omnipotence and omniscience. ( all powerful and all knowing).
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And measured the heavens with a span, And calculated the dust of the earth with a measure, And weighed the mountains in a balance And the hills in a pair of scales? Isaiah 40:12
The answer to this group of questions would be... no human could!
And....Oh by the way, no idol could either!
God has infinite power, and knowledge. In comparison, we humans are next to nothing, in knowledge and power.
We often, in foolish pride, think we are close to being a god, but that is a seriously flawed belief! The devil, Satan in his pride, also, came to the wrong conclusion!

Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has informed Him? Isiah 40:13
Obviously, No one can,
as God is omniscient... however not for lack of trying! Humans continually try to tell God, what He should or should not do.
They often treat God as if he were a genie released from a bottle.... and not the all knowing and all powerful Creator. God is the supreme, there is none higher. God does not need any human or angel to council Him.
With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge, And informed Him of the way of understanding? Isaiah 40:14
Again, the answer to the questions is:
Noone!
The apostle Paul refers to this in Romans
34 For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? 35 Or who has first given to Him that it might be repaid to him? 36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. Romans 11:34-36
In order to emphasize the foolishness of anyone, thinking they can advise God, whose knowledge is endless, the prophet repeats the same idea, with a different set of questions.
Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, And are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust. Isaiah 40:15
Here is a comparison of humanity against God. A drop in a bucket a speck of dust neither has any real power, or weight or influence against God, or in comparison to God.

Even Lebanon is not enough to burn, Nor its animals enough for a burnt offering. Isaiah 40:16
I am not sure I will ever totally comprehend the greatness, holiness, honor, supreme power, exhaustive infinite knowledge, paramount love etc. of God...I would have to be God, because it is to high for me to fully ever know.
And therefore, nothing of mankind, not land, or animals, nor anything else, could ever be sufficient, for the unlimited worthiness of God.
And so in this verse, it explains that concept, in that, their insufficiency could never match His immensity and greatness.
None of it will be what He deserves!
Not only is Lebanon insufficient to be worthy of God...
All the nations are as nothing before Him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless. Isaiah 40:17
Actually, all the nations, and I dare say, the universe itself ( His Creation), is insignificant, compared to the Creator God.
And just as an aside, and in fact, at some point in the future, God is going to destroy this universe, and make a New Heaven and a New Earth.

The one thing about how rapidly now things are getting worse is:
It is one more proof the Bible is true and accurate!
Talking about how fast things are moving... just in our country ( setting aside all over the world!!!)

and that is just the top of the iceberg so to speak!

To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare with Him? Isaiah 40:18
This has to be a bit of sarcasm! Indeed! Imagine, a bit of lifeless clay, or wood, or metal trying to portray:
the all knowing, all powerful infinite eternal just, Holy, loving Creator of everything etc etc. God! Dead lifeless idols cannot compare to God, that is utter foolishness!
As for the idol, a craftsman casts it, A goldsmith plates it with gold, And a silversmith fashions chains of silver. Isaiah 40:19
Precious metals do not make a whit of difference... the idols that were made by humans, still don't: speak, or think, or hear or move etc.
So, no matter how ornate, or elaborately adorned, or sparkling gilded, it is still dead and lifeless. This is a rather bizarre deception! Adding decorative chains, is almost funny, if it were not so sad.

Those were awesome posts Barbara! I loved them! NacArthur said in one sermon that we'll never see God, other than Jesus, because the Father and the Holy Spirit are Spirit and we are not. It's true that we can't see Him now, but I'm not so sure we won't be able to see Him when we get to Heaven in our new bodies. It's entirely possible that God will give us the ability to see Him in all His glory. Wouldn't that be just the most incredible, amazing, thing you could ever imagine? After all, according to His Word, nothing is impossible for God!

He who is too impoverished for such an offering Selects a tree that does not rot; He seeks out for himself a skillful craftsman To prepare an idol that will not totter. Isaiah 40:20
The rich could make their idols out of gold and silver, but the poor had to find a tree that would not rot. However, the rich and poor alike are condemned, by believing this unbelievable and strange notion, that gold, sliver, or wood, could in any way be a 'god'.
And yet, right up to this very day, people believe all sorts of mind boggling lies and strange notions! One example, is that people can change their sex.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? Isaiah 40:21
Indeed, the Jews had been told from the beginning, that God is the Creator of all things, not a piece of wood, that hopefully won't rot. Did a piece of wood, create the universe? What insane folly! It seems incomprehensible having heard the truth, to then, walk straight into foolishness, darkness and madness.
