Macrium Reflect''s Verify, distinctions with important differences Quoting myself from: www.tenforums.com/backup-restore/145116-macrium-trial-restore.html#post1777959 -- "Another safeguard: before the need for restore(s) arrive, do a verify on each image. If I somewhat understand MR Verify, it means the image was successfully read from beginning to end on that particular external media, it may not necessarily mean the backup image was perfectly made from the source media. Macrium reflect forum has a thread or two extensively explaining Macrium Reflect Verify, along with a little debate." I'm hoping to re-find on MR forum those threads, and link them in this thread. One: forum.macrium.com/32508/Macrium-Reflects-Verify-distinctions-with-important-differencesIn other words, rather than a philosophical distinction without a difference, we have, in this backup / restore world, distinctions with very important differences.

Referencing Topic23754 directly and others indirectly: Even as far back as DOS 3.3 and Windows 3.1, in-house and 3rd party utilities existed that offered File Compare. File Compare did exactly that, compared File A existing on magnetic media to File B existing on magnetic media, both of which "existed as on-bits/off-bits of iron rust", and generated a report indicating either that A and B are identical or that A and B are not identical, and then give the differences. How these utilities did the compare -- one would have to read the geek-speak writing which came with each utility.
