Ran errands this morning. My kids gave me a gift card at Barnes & Noble for Christmas so I used the balance to order a book I heard about: "How to Understand and Apply the New Testament" by Andrew Naselli. Should be here in about a week. Warmer weather here and the sun is shining. Going to our daughter's on Saturday. Hugs to all. Lucky you! My favorite gift since I was 6 years old has always been a gift certificate to a book store! Our weather is still mild. Mostly in the 40's during the day and 30's at night. Still having some rain today. Wow, looks so different than ours! It rained all day yesterday here and we're still getting some rain today, but then it's over for at least a week, or so they say anyway. That's too funny about the chicken not cooking. I've never had that problem with chicken. My problem with chicken, is cooking it too much, because I HAVE to get it done, done. Ed was the same way about chicken. He really didn't care for it, but he'd only eat if I cooked it. But, he'd always say "Burn it good!" No where else, except when his sister would make chicken soup. But her chicken soup has no chicken in it. Just homemade noodles with chicken broth poured over it in a bowl. One holiday, when Ed and I were visiting his sister, I was helping to wash the dirty dishes after the meal. I found a big stock pot, on the stove, that had some really nasty looking water in it. I thought it might have had something cooked in it and was full of water to soak. I had the sink full of dish water, so I asked her if I can dump this through the commode. Every single one of them dove at me, yelling NOOOOOO! I flinched and said "What?!" Ed said, "That's the chicken soup!" I was so embarrassed. A terrible insult to the host, for sure! Then I added insult to injury and asked, "Well, where's the chicken?" My SIL said, "Oh I throw that away." I was like....'ok Cheryl, you can shut up and sit down, now, before you say something you can't take back.'
That's so funny! I can just imagine it happening LOL You wanted to pour the soup down the commode? And THEN said, "Where's the chicken?" (Reminds me of "Where's the beef?") I can just picture it, and it's hilarious! Popping in to thank you for the prayers for safety yesterday. The weather wasn't too bad at our house as far as being in danger of tornadoes (it was worse at my Mom's in GA), but downtown Columbia had some flooding. And we got the high winds today - boy was it fierce, but no storms. Funny you should mention the wind chimes Cheryl, because we heard ours too! I REALLY appreciate the prayers for Daniel's trip also. We have to have him at the Charlotte airport at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Just finished up getting the last of his things packed; hope we haven't forgotten anything. Please continue praying for the safety and health of everyone on this trip!! Thank you all SO much. Cindy, thank you for the update on your neighbor and her daughter. I am glad to hear there is improvement. Saying a prayer now for continued recovery. Lulu -- SO sorry to hear about your butcher block. I hope Matt is able to get it repaired and properly restored. Anna, Barb, Margie, Ruthanne & Seven - hope you are all doing well and staying out of trouble! I'm glad you're all safe and sound and I know Daniel will be on his trip too. I'll ask the Lord to remind me to pray for him too so I won't forget.
I keep meaning to ask how your sister is doing. I'm still praying for her and hope she's feeling better. I continue to pray for you and John too of course and hope you haven't had any more migraines and that John is doing well. Is that biologic working well for him?

Hi Leigh, I hope you are doing fine. That was funny Cindy and Cheryl. Cheryl. I do now use garbanzo bean flour and unlike rice flour I do like the garbanzo bean flour. I ground my own and that was difficult and a course texture, so I plan to buy a fine ground texture and the flour is cheap to buy, so I think it is a winner.

Lorrie, thank you for giving me a chuckle, with your response to my story. And you're welcome for the prayers. Any time you need prayer, I'm there for you. With that being said, please, everyone, can you include me in your prayers too? For those of you, who can read the happenings about me, it is explained. For the others, just know that it's an unspoken prayer request, and the Lord knows.
Anna, Awesome about the garbanzo bean flour. It will take some time for me to consider trying it, but I won't forget it. Thank you for letting us know that it really does work!
Margie, I hope you enjoy the book you ordered. I don't go anywhere near Barnes & Noble, right now. I have 3 novels, I've yet to read, here in the house, but I'm a book lover and would not be able to walk out of there, without spending a fortune on books.
Cindy, I'm sorry that you are still in the midst of winter. I just can't stand the thought of downing a snowmobile suit and going out and making a snow fort. I know I did that, as a kid, and made the best of it, but I really didn't even like the snow, as a child either. My parents actually MADE me go out and play. As an adult, I absolutely hated it, and dreamed for a snow melt and warmer days. Sometimes the heat in the south is more than one can bear, but I'd take it over the freezing temps of the north.

Yes Cheryl, praying!! Thank you all for praying for Daniel. This is the big day!! We drove up to Charlotte last night and stayed right by the airport and are getting ready to take him to meet his group in just a few minutes. His flight leaves around 11:30 and arrives at 1:40 Costa Rica time. I'll try and check in later.

Well not to be out done by ya'll's wind HA Yesterday on weather underground, it said we had a gust of over 100mph.....
I dunno about that, I looked at a local's weather cam and he had a gust of about 57 mph.....
However we did have a wind warning with gusts to 70-80 sooooooo anyway, it was breezy.... being right on the northern Oregon Coast, we do get lots of breezy weather.
This Tue my son and daughter in law will be having their 1st baby ( she has to have a c-section which is why we know know the date). It will be our 3rd grandchild, a boy Liam. From the two who had said they would not have any children, but not are pretty excited...as are we.
So prays that all goes well with the c-section if you get spare time....thank you.

This mornings walk with my Boy Mace Well, your pics are still not showing up in my quote replies, but I enjoyed seeing them in your post and all the others on Facebook. Such a pretty park, you have near you. And Mace is just as cute as ever!

You're the first person I've met that didn't like the snow as a child. I always wanted to see snow when I was a child, and eventually did when we moved to Europe. I was thrilled with it and did everything a person can do in the snow. I especially loved downhill skiing, it was great! My grandkids all love it too and are always eager to get out in it. Each time they come over when there's snow, they grab a snack and then get their snow suits on and head outside! It brings back so many memories of my own kids during the winter. I had two sets of snow suits and gloves and boots and hats for each of them. I'd call them inside every two hours to take off the set they were wearing, and put on the dry ones because they'd be totally soaked to the skin by then. Then I'd throw that set into the dryer while they were out playing so it would be dry and ready for them when I called them inside in another couple of hours. When Elijah and Grace are here, that's what I have to do with them too LOL. I say the same thing now that I said when my kids were little: "if we can go to the moon and back, why can't they invent a snowsuit and boots and gloves for kids that won't get soaking wet in the winter???? (and that doesn't cost as much as a house!) I enjoyed living in Arizona, and Florida too, as well as the other states I've lived in, but I have to say that New Hampshire is my favorite place of all. Yes Cheryl, praying!! Thank you all for praying for Daniel. This is the big day!! Thank you, Margie. I just received your Easter card. Thank you, it's lovely. And the flower seeds. I am going to plant them, in a pot, this time. That way I can enjoy them on my deck. Thank you!
I see that my hibiscus is sprouting up. Some of my rose trees were leaning over. I taped them back to their supports. Looks like one rose tree died over the winter. I wondered if that one was going to make it. Weird thing.....my grass all along the front looks like it is dead. Just on the rise, coming from the road. I have several spots all over the yard, like that too. I was so hoping that I could make the yard look almost as good as Ed kept it, but now it looks like the grass is dying.

Thank you Cheryl, I was hoping people knew it was some kind of a typo on my part, it would have been weird if they were not now excited about baby Liam......who is getting closer to being hours away. Don't worry about your grass....at least here in the coastal Northwest.....I can't seem to make the grass stop! so maybe it will come back.....if you give it a really really good watering??

So I will be back tomorrow, I need to go to the Bible study now too! :-) No, to me it looked like a very excited grandma just made a typo I'll join you over there again today! I just love doing our studies together! I have so many notes by verses in my bible that start out, "Barbara said" LOL LOL, Barbara, I knew what you meant, and I'm thinking that everyone else does too.
Thank you, Margie. I just received your Easter card. Thank you, it's lovely. And the flower seeds. I am going to plant them, in a pot, this time. That way I can enjoy them on my deck. Thank you!

I'm sure it will come back just fine hon. Just ask the Lord to help, and I'm sure He will. After all, look at all the things He grew for me in my yard LOL cause I know I didn't do it, cause I didn't know how! Seriously though, I know the Lord will help if you ask Him. He loves to do stuff like that! Well, today's the day! Time to welcome God's latest blessing for you! May the Lord bless little Liam with salvation and a heart of passion for Him and His Word!
I finally uploaded our pictures. I can't believe it but I haven't uploaded them since Christmas! Anyway here's a couple of Christmas pictures for you, and one taken just a couple of days ago. I'd gotten up from my chair to get something to drink and when I came back to sit down, this is what I found:
Don't they all just look so comfy? And no, they didn't want to share with me! That's why Chloe's giving me the evil eye cause she knows she's the one who will have to move!
Here's some from Christmas:
The cats made as big a mess as the kids did! (this was before the kids got to our house) Chloe liked the paper as much as she liked the toys lol.
Then, remember when we went to the ice races? There's some pictures from that too. Bruce normally actually watches the races, but it seems when he has the kids with him that he can't stop watching them instead LOL. Before they were born when we went to any race, he'd have tons of pictures of the race itself. Now he has pictures of the kids LOL
Now for a good laugh.... a couple of weeks ago when the kids came over they each made a huge snowball and joined them together to start a new fort they wanted to build. (so they said anyway) But as soon as we saw it, it was all I could do not to burst out laughing! It got even worse as the snow melted. I only wish I'd taken a picture of it the day before yesterday so you could see how bad it really was. But there was still a little left yesterday which will give you a bit of an idea of what it actually looked like....
If that doesn't look just like two big boobs or maybe an extra large bra, then I don't know what does! They couldn't have made it look more like one if they'd tried!
Ok, now that you've been bored to death, and gotten a good laugh, I'll get over to the bible study thread lol

Cindy: Your cats certainly look very very comfy in 'their' chair.....oh yes, I am very familiar with cat thinking!
And that snow fort cracked me up !!!!!!! LOLOL
I am still waiting on pins and needles about Liam and mom... and of course our son-daddy...... I guess they could be a 'bit' busy..... Perhaps he will get around to e-mails (photos) or calls in a few hours.

I baaack!!! Baby Liam is here and he is a precious 'perfect' baby.....you know what I mean ( none of us are without sin) but no physical problems and he and mom are healthy and well.
Son Michael wrote a 'superhero is born' LOL I think that might be because I informed my son when he told me Liam's name, that Liam means a mighty warrior HA_HA! So it seems my son has run with that. :-) In fact, Michael wrote ( and sent photos) He was born right on schedule: April 11th 8:09 AM, weighting 6 lb 14 oz, and in perfect health.
I think a small part of me wonder because they both were vegetarians for ever ( Michael since he was 15....but later on in life added eggs, and a few years back some fish.) But I am guessing our PHD scientist daughter-in-law made sure that Liam got proper nutrition and more to the point, the Lord has seen to it.
I think if possible, I am more excited then they, if that could be possible.
I haven't told Leonard yet.....he is sleeping, and normally I would wake him up, but he is having another swollen, hurting toe attack, so I am 'trying' to sit on my hand, tape my mouth shut, and wait....patiently...........not! LOL
So while waiting, I came here instead! :-)

Thank you for reminding me, Cindy. I just said a prayer, asking the Lord to help me with the lawn.
I love pictures, and you know me......I'm never bored with pictures. However, I did get a good laugh....first at your cats, then smiled seeing the children playing and last but certainly not least, I saw that hump of snow and immediately thought of a bra, even before I read the rest of your post. I really hope you knocked that down, after you took the picture! Can't have the neighbors thinking that Bruce is some kind of prevert (as Ed would pronounce it, lol.) Just kidding around. But, it WAS funny! Thanks for sharing.
Congrats on your new grandson, and I love his name. You're right to not wake Leonard up. He will be able to enjoy the news and his new grandson, when y'all get to see him, much better if he is rested and hopefully in less pain. I'm saying a prayer right now for his healing.

Glad you enjoyed the card and seeds Cheryl. I think plant seeds are a good illustration of resurrection so that's why I include them with Easter cards.
Cindy, the snow "fort" pic is hilarious!
The racket from a hailstorm woke me up at 3:30 this morning. It lasted about 10-15 minutes but didn't seem to do any damage around here. Lots of leaves on the ground but nothing major. I couldn't get back to sleep.
We're going to our daughter's house for Easter. We'll meet at their church for the service and then go home with them. I'm bringing deviled eggs.

I woke up this morning, and noticed that it had to have been a very heavy rain, at least. But, apparently I was tired, and slept right through it. Usually, within a few hours of when you get a storm, it arrives here.
Sounds like you have nice Easter plans. Happy Easter! It's too late for me to send a card, so I wanted to make sure I wish you a good day.

No one can see into our yard, which is nice, but I took my kindle to the coop meeting on Monday and showed my neighbors when we were there. They burst out laughing as soon as they saw it! Actually, I'm surprised that it lasted a whole week. It's gone now, though as yesterday the weather decided to think it was August as it got up to 82 degrees. The day before it had gotten up to 60 which is high in itself, and thankfully it's back down to the 60's today and should stay around that for awhile now. Glad you enjoyed the card and seeds Cheryl. If you all think of it, Jenn could use some prayers as Bob got laid off work yesterday. So they're going through a hard time right now. Have a good day everyone!

I just am letting you all know or little grandson Liam is probably having surgery for an intestinal bowel obstruction today. It is apparently very common in little ones ( If not THE most common surgery having to be performed on new borns). Still poor little one. Plus our daughter-in-law had a c-section, so they will have to release her from the hospital they are at, and then Liam will be transferred to a different hospital ( I am thinking one that specializes in infants care and surgery). I will post back here and in the prayer section when I hear back, but it may not be until quite a bit later.

I'm so glad they diagnosed him, right away. My nephew wasn't diagnosed, right away, because of a doctor's incompetence. The child was catatonic, by the time he was diagnosed, but he pulled through the surgery, with flying colors. He had a thin membrane that had grown over and was blocking his stomach from his intestine, and everything he consumed, came right back up. He was just staring and didn't move much, and he wasn't growing. I had him in my arms, one of the times he projectile vomited all over my desk, me and my chair, at work. My niece was in talking business with my boss, at the time. I walked in there, and interrupted them, and told her to get him to the emergency room immediately and don't take no for an answer, this time. I told her what just happened and to look at this baby. He's barely breathing! She took him in, in a panic and got him seen to, and bypassed his pediatrician and refused to allow her to tend to him. This doctor has since lost her license to practice, because apparently this was not the first malpractice issue.
I only told you all of that, because my nephew was close to death, and he still got through the surgery and no repercussions. I know you are worried, but the Lord is always in control!!

So apparently this is common and yes, I am so thankful the Lord saw fit to have more competent doctors!!!
I just heard back from my son and this is what he said:
"Liam had the surgery this morning, and it was the best case scenario of all the possible issues! He had an Artesia of the small intestine, they were able to cut out parts and put the good ends together. This should promote development and he should have a normal life! We're so relieved and happy, and should be able to bring him home in 10 days or so if all goes well :)"
but yikes Little Liam will have to be in hospital 10 days.....or.....more! So I am so grateful the Lord heard all your prayers and provided Liam with a good surgeon! But now he needs to recover.
That was such a sad story Cheryl!!! poor little baby!!
Oh and while I am at it, Leonard's toe was bothering him......again! So he went up this morning...they took x-rays....again At first the person looking said....again, it looked ok..... But................ He just got a call from the hospital....not so fast the infection has gone into the bone!!! He has to go into Portland to see a specialist....soon!!!!!
So I will again post in prayer section and ask for prayers for hubby here also. Thank you all in advance
Seems like it never rains but it pours any more. sigh!
And oh yes, I haven't heard back from my son, ( I asked about how Jessica is doing) remember, our daughter in law had little Liam by c-section... so of course... she is recovering too!!!

I'm so happy to know that Liam fared well in surgery, and I'm also happy to know that they are keeping him for 10 days, because he's so tiny, and just had invasive surgery. He needs to be monitored. I hope that he can still bond with his mother, while he is in the hospital. That is so important in the first days after birth.
I just posted a praise report and miracle testimony on behalf of our sister, Marianne. I put it in the "Testimonies and Miracles" forum. No spoilers here..........the news is over there.

My goodness, Cheryl what a story about your little nephew (SO thankful that he came through that!) AND what a praise that Liam did so well during the surgery!! Barb, I just said a prayer for ALL of them, Leonard too!! We would love to see photos of little Liam whenever you can post them. And I will get over soon and read Cheryl's update on Marianne - can't wait to see it! (Just saw it -- it's amazing!!!) Hope everyone else is doing fine. Well today Daniel returns from Costa Rica (not for another 12+ hours from now, though), and what a week it's been! I have posted occasional updates on Facebook, but will summarize here:- They arrived in CR safely last Saturday afternoon, however one of the girls in his group had a seizure at the Charlotte airport while waiting in the [long] check-in line, and had to be rushed to the ER, so she missed the trip. (Daniel had already checked in so we were sitting in a waiting area when that happened. We heard a commotion with some yelling and later discovered that's what had happened. The place was swarming with people and it was a madhouse. I have not heard any update on her since then but hope and pray she is fine.)
- First night the food was awful (a sign of things to come!) so the group got late-night Pizza Hut.
- Sunday they toured a coffee plantation and visited a volcano! That night Daniel froze in his cold hotel room.
- Monday started well with a tour of a chocolate plantation (& samples!) and whitewater rafting, however one of the girls became ill and by night time, Daniel was sick too. The teacher called me to say a doctor was there to check both of them and she stood there while he checked Daniel and told me everything the doctor said. The doctor felt that it was just a viral or bacterial infection and that, with medication, he should feel much better by Tuesday. Well the medicine made him violently ill. There was a spare hotel room with three beds, so (with parental permission), the teacher put the sick girl in one bed, Daniel in the other, and she slept on the bed in between so she could keep watch over them both. I have to say she was really brave to do that and I appreciated it SO much!! - The doctor returned on Tuesday morning and gave Daniel a shot to help with the nausea. Then in the confusion of moving to the next hotel, he lost part of his medicine. He said the teacher was not happy about that!
- By Tuesday afternoon three more students were sick! The sick ones had to skip the fun zip-line canopy tour over the jungle, BUT they did NOT miss the fun bus ride through winding roads to the next region!! (Can you imagine having a tropical virus and having to ride on a tour bus for several hours?!)
- From Wednesday on, everybody was better, thank You Lord!! However Daniel had a bat flying around his room that evening. As in, a BAT!!!
- By Thursday night he was ready for REAL American food! I posted on FB some funny text messages he sent me about it ("Can you get me a Chick Fil-A sandwich and have it waiting when I get home.... if I see rice and beans again I'm leaving the family...." etc. etc.) however he did not appreciate me sharing all that so I deleted it.
- Friday they took a river tour and snorkeled in the Pacific. All in all he's glad he went, but he did say "this trip eradicated any interest in traveling to Mexico." (Ya think?!) So again, please pray that all goes smoothly on today's return trip... the bus ride to the airport, the flight to Charlotte, and our 2 hour drive back home.
Thank you all SO much. I planned to get a lot of stuff done while he was gone this week, but didn't. Between the anxiety over his illness, traveling with John while he worked out of town for two days, then two friends from church being hospitalized and visiting both of them yesterday (with a Good Friday service between the two), I haven't accomplished much.
Let me share a link that I posted yesterday though, on FB, to a beautiful song appropriate to the season:

Lorrie, I didn't realize Daniel's trip was THAT horrific. I read the post you had to delete, where Daniel was saying he wanted the Chick-Fil-A waiting for him, or a cheeseburger, or pizza, but no beans or rice. I laughed with you about what he'd written. Tell Daniel that I love him, and I love reading what he says, because he has a way of saying things, so serious, but cracks me up. But, tell him that I also prayed for him to get well, and come home safely. And just said another prayer, that they will all get home to US soil, safely and without sickness. Please tell Daniel that if he takes any more trips, out of the country to take with him, beef jerky, and dehydrated fruit. And something that my brother begged us to send to him, when he was overseas in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq, was powdered drink mix, to cover up the taste of the water. We sent him gatorade mix. To read that Daniel only had chips and fruit to eat, made me want to send him food! But, I don't think a CFA sandwich would have survived the trip.
I'm sorry that you didn't get what you planned on getting done, while everyone was away, but it sounds like you were needed in other ways, and I'm happy to know that you traveled with John for his job. That's important.
That's a beautiful song, Lorrie. The first time I ever heard it was when you posted it on Facebook, yesterday. Thank you for sharing it.

Thanks Cheryl! If I get a chance later I'll try and tell you why that song is special to me (but I'm bad about getting back to post things later).
Thank you VERY much for praying for Daniel all week!! You have been so faithful to read & comment on my FB posts and keep up with it all, and I am so grateful!
His return flight is delayed by about 1-1/2 hours, so it's going to be a late night.
Yes, about the food situation... they were told not to take any food in their baggage, but that they could buy food once they got to Costa Rica if they wanted (3 meals/day were included in the tour fee, but you already know those three meals were rice and beans and he hates rice!). They told everyone to take a certain amount of spending cash per day and for two extra excursions that were not covered in the trip fee, which he did.
Well, he ended up paying cash to the doctor who checked him and for his meds-- over $130 total. That only left him $20 for the rest of the week. Supposedly we'll be reimbursed because he was required to buy trip insurance, but in the meantime he had no cash for the rest of the week for any sort of extras. He messaged me from the airport a couple of hours ago that he bought a slice of pizza, fries, and a water bottle for $25 (credit card worked there).
For the record, when I mentioned in a text message about it not being a good week for him he replied, "I've had a great time," so I'm glad to hear that.
Because he had to fry a lot of chicken {working at Chick Fil A} to pay for that trip!!!

Because he had to fry a lot of chicken {working at Chick Fil A} to pay for that trip!!! TWENTY-FIVE dollars!? For a slice and fries?! Another reason why I'm so happy to be an American Citizen! And WE complain about the price of a fast food meal, in the States, costing $10! OK, I'll be a lot more appreciative, now!
I like Chick-Fil-A. I especially like the #1 on the menu. I like it better than the biscuit entry. And thank you, again, for sending Ed and me that gift card. We used part of it, together, but I still had money on the card, so one day, while I was recently up by the Mall, I decided to treat myself to a sandwich and waffle fries. I thought I'd just use up the rest of the card, but it still left 33 cents. So, I kept the card, and will consider it a little discount, the next time I happen to be up that way. It's the only CFA in my area. And it is packed, every time I am there.
