Still praying for you Ruthanne. I was struck by what you said that your family can't understand that there are people on the net that can care.
On the one hand, I can understand their thoughts, for sure there are a lot of uncaring people on the net....but there are uncaring people everywhere..in real life that one can see and touch.
It used to be eons ago, LOL that people used to have pen pals they never saw, but wrote to each other over the years, and came to love their friend ( I have to admit to even crying having 'fallen in love with a character in a book')!!!
The thing is people on the net are... ta dah....' people' ..... at least so far.... maybe an AI ( artificial intelligence) or two....
but it seems that so far, real people have discovered them right away ( artificial intelligences) , and messed with them, so much that it was really really funny. I don't think we even have to consider that at all!!
But I have to say this, about that....online friendships
I have to say, Cindy ( my online Christian friend) has helped me more than I could ever ever say.....I would be sooooo far back, or not have made any or hardly any progress in my walk with Jesus without her endless encouragement and on a very rare occasion very caring rebuke. All at a great cost to her own comfort and dealing with great pain.
But I wonder if your family understands about the old fashion pen pals.... some of which even lead to a romance, where people who never saw each other ( a man and a woman pen pal) fell in love, all thru letters over the years ( today's e-mails, texts etc) and met in person got married.
Not like the web sites where people scroll thru a big list looking for certain traits they think they want.... no the old fashion pen pals had years of communication.
All to say, you are my sister in Christ tho I have never met you and I do love and care about you.
Can they not see that we have not asked you for money or any other nefarious thing?
I can't think of a more loving caring person than Cindy and Cheryl has been sooooo supportive and loving, she cares very much for you.
I hope I am not sounding angry at your family. I am not. I do understand they worry and care about you....but this group has know you for a long time not, and we are not some flash in the pan LOL
But most important of all, we all Love our Lord Jesus and that is what makes the real difference.
I guess, I do get a little ( LOL) protective of Cindy, and Cheryl and Mark, etc etc.
I just wish they could know we really care about you, love you as our sister in Christ, and our prays are for the Lord to be with you and comfort you and heal you.

Hi Ruthanne! I just got your message to call you, so I missed that call, sorry. It's 6am the next day, right now. And no..........I haven't been to bed yet. I posted in trials and that took me several hours to get through. So, I didn't sleep. I need to lay down for a little while though. I'm glad to know that the nurse is being so attentive with you, after the way they treated you at the hospital. Call me when you need to, sis. I'm here. And if my machine picks up, know that I'll call you back as soon as I get the message.
Coming back to edit. Hey when I get over there to visit you, and meet your family, can I tell them that I am one of those "internet people" LOL huh? huh? can I, huh? LOL

Fearnot and Cheryl - Great posts! Very well put.
I'm old enough to remember pen pals. I had one in France and one in Kenya.
Beautiful day here. I'm on the patio, my favorite place.
Hugs to all.

I do have to come back and post in defense of Ruthanne's son and his wife, though. They know who we are....well, at least the ones who call her and visit with her over the phone. I think she was actually referring to the siblings and inlaws. Correct me if I'm wrong, Ruthanne.
Ruthanne told me something, a few days ago, that made me feel so good. She said that her daughter in law had seen a post of mine, where I said that Ed had fluid build up on his left lung, and I took him to the ER and the surgeon drained a lot of fluid from him and it saved him from having a collapsed lung. And Ruthanne was having the same symptoms, and my post was what made her DIL put her foot down, and take her to the ER. There were no if's and's or but's about it, she was going and that was that.
And it WAS the same thing, but Ruthanne had way more than Ed did. So, I don't think her kids think we are the "internet people". But, that's OK. Ruthanne knows the truth and that is what counts.

UPDATE: Ruthanne is still not doing well. She keeps having fluid build up on her lungs. She's now gone in 3 times to have the fluid drained. They told her that she has 2 more times, they will drain the fluid as an outpatient, and if it continues, then they will hospitalize her and put in a tube. She does not want this and is refusing this option and can't get anyone to listen to her. They don't give her the pain meds and make her lay on her back. And that makes her pain level way worse. She needs continued prayer. And thank you.

Praying for Ruthanne. If she has to go to hospital how long do they estimate she would have to be there and do they think it would solve the problem once and for all? Thank you for the update Cheryl.

Hi everyone. I forgot to come in here and give y'all and update, after I spoke with Ruthanne, last night. Now I hope I remember what all she asked me to tell you. She can sometimes sit and read the posts, but she can't sit in her computer chair for very long, before her legs and feet swell up. But, know that she is reading and she is very thankful for all the prayers. And that reminds me, now, what it was that she wanted me to tell all of you.
She said that because of our prayers, the Lord put it into her heart to do exactly what the doctor suggests, and to ask all the right questions, so that she isn't afraid to go back in, if it should come to that. She still has two more times that she will need to go in and have the fluid buildup drained. And if it keeps being a lot of it, they will have no choice but to insert a drain tube on her lung. But, each time she goes in, it's less and less, so Lord willing, she will not have to be hospitalized. She is still in a LOT of pain, but most of her pain is from her chronic pain, although she is still having pain where the scars are. She has several incisions on her legs and of course her chest incision, and the chest bone.
Barbara, in response to your questions, the time she'd have to be there, all depends on how her healing goes. And it also depends on her healing process, whether draining it will take care of it, once and for all. When it happened to Ed, he was still in the hospital, so they did hook him up with a machine that drained the fluid off his lung. This is fluid that builds up, outside the lung, and left untreated, will cause the lung to collapse. Ed was on the machine for an entire day. After he got home, I had to take him back in because the left lung had the same problem and they drained 7ml of fluid in an outpatient procedure, by inserting a tube through his back and draining it that way. The same as what they are doing with Ruthanne. After Ed's second draining, it never happened again. So, everyone is different.

Thank you so much for the info Cheryl. All this time I was thinking the fluid was in her lungs and I was wondering how it was exactly related to her heart. But the way you explained it helped a lot. So is the fluid build up then from the body reacting to the surgery to her heart?
I am trying to understand why there is fluid build up in the first place, I am thinking it might be like if I took a needle and continued to poke a hole in my finger, and then stopped, the body would start immediate repairs, but part of that might involved my finger swelling, getting red ( and of course maybe infection)? Is it anything like that? It would seem baring a massive infection, with time, the fluid will stop because the body will have finished its repairs??
In any case, I will continue to pray for Ruthanne and thank you so much for your updates.
Isn't it amazing how God has worked, because of Ed you can come along side of Ruthanne with quite a bit of insight into what is going on and what she is going thru.

Isn't it amazing how God has worked, because of Ed you can come along side of Ruthanne with quite a bit of insight into what is going on and what she is going thru. Well, there is normally a tiny amount of fluid in the chest cavity outside the lining of the lung. It's serves as a "lubrication" for when you breathe and expand/retract your lungs. The same as with the heart. There is a thin membrane around the heart with a tiny bit of fluid that serves the same purpose....to prevent friction when the heart is pumping. And in the case of de-hydration, that protective fluid will dissipate, causing the chest to be in extreme pain.
But, the body will retain fluids, especially in a medically invasive case of open heart surgery, during the healing process. But when there is excess fluid build up, it has to be drained to prevent further complications. (the procedure is referred to as Thoracentesis) And in Ruthanne's case, (as with Ed's) the complication will result in her lung collapsing. But, in meantime, she isn't getting the proper blood flow to her heart and that will cause another heart attack. And if she doesn't have immediate attention, it will lead to death.
Sorry to be so blunt, but it's very serious. And she has been in this 'immediate attention' situation. And the ONLY reason she is still with us, is because our Lord is taking care of her. There is no other explanation. But, we all know that our Lord is our Master Physician and His timing is perfect.
Through all our prayers, Ruthanne is going to come out of this with flying colors and in our Lord's Glory, and OH the testimonies she will have to share! Praise be to HIM!

Thank you soooooo much for that excellent explanation Cheryl!!!
Some times when meeting a new doctor, I have had to fill out a questionnaire or am asked in person: How much information would you like about ------- ( whatever the problem). They may say do you want just the bare bones basic or in detail.
I am a: " I want to know in detail".....because tho exactly like you say.....God is in total control
I still have the kind of mind that wants to know ( as much as can be known at this time) about whatever medical issue>
So I am so grateful for your taking the time and explaining what is happening to Ruthanne.
It in some ways helps to to better pray...of course, the Lord being with her, comforting her ( her spiritual health ) is first,
but it helps me to also ask more specific petitions on a purely physical or emotional etc. level to God.
So again thank you
Not to mention, I just was truly wondering the whys and whats is happening to her.

Hello my dear friends.I am not supposed to be at the comp.so I won't be here long, but I want all of you to know how much I appreciate your thoughtfulness in keeping me in prayer, even when it seems I am fighting myself. Please know the Lord is in control of all, especially me.I may rebel when told something but the minute the Lord gets me alone He straightens me out and I don't wait for the proverbial 2x4,lol.Been there, done that.I really need prayers tonight cause I woke up short of breath this morning. It usually doesn't happen til 10 or 11:00 pm.So please pray I can make it til 12:30 tomorrow as everyone knows what er's are like.I am staying off the phone as I am so short on breath. But I have let my family know to be aware and my sil Deloris is taking me.We haven't heard from Robin since Thursday, personally.but she is ok.She texted to ask about Levi. My other sil,the RN asked her friends who work in the heart area and they told her one way to fix me is to put a tube in my chest and blow powder in to seal the leak as it must be small to take a week to build up.Any hosp stay should be short so praise God.I trust Him with my life.Thank you everyone and thank you so much Cheryl.Barb was so right, having you here to know what I am talking about and explaining things to me has been a God thing.Especially with the pain she is in physically and more importantly ,emotionally.I pray I will be able to help her in her time of need, when she gets smacked in the face with a grief attack.Thank God He has big shoulders and strong arms, cause they sure help at those times.Love you all,Ruthanne
