Abbas: Terror wave is a 'legitimate peaceful protest'
By Dalit Halevi 3/3/2016
Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday reiterated his opposition to recognizing Israel as a Jewish state, and also referred to the current terror wave as a “legitimate peaceful protest”.
He made the comments at the start of a meeting of the Revolutionary Council of his Fatah organization, attended by members of the Fatah Central Committee.
In his speech at the meeting, Abbas once again expressed his support for the French political initiative which seeks to convene an international peace conference.
France, which announced the peace conference initiative in January, has threatened to unilaterally recognize the “State of Palestine” if the initiative fails.
Abbas said that there is a need to convene an international peace conference in order to end the current deadlock in the peace process, and also said that the Palestinians intend to appeal to the UN Security Council in order to have resolutions passed calling for the "end of the settlements in all the Palestinian territories."
Abbas called the current terror wave, which Palestinian Arabs have referred to as the “Al-Quds Intifada”, as a "popular peaceful uprising” which, he claimed, was initiated in response to the behavior of the "occupation"...

Abbas Claims on Israeli TV He Is Battling Palestinian Violence And Wants Peace
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz April 1, 2016
“He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house; he that speaketh falsehood shall not be established before mine eyes. Morning by morning will I destroy all the wicked of the land; to cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of the LORD.” Psalms 101:7-8 (The Israel Bible™)
In a rare Israeli television interview on Thursday, Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, said that he is working hard against Palestinian violence and still considers Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a partner for peace negotiations.
On Channel 2’s Uvda program, Abbas told journalist, Ilana Dayan, that he is battling the current wave of violence.
“I would have to be crazy to tell my son that [carrying a knife] is the right thing. Or that these knife attacks are the right thing to do,” he said, adding, “You know, we, our security services, go into schools to look in students’ backpacks, search whether they are carrying knives. You do not know about this. In one school we found 70 boys and girls carrying knives. We took the knives from them, talked to them and told them it was a mistake.”
“When a child goes and takes a knife, he does not consult with anyone. Not with his parents, not his brother,” continued Abbas, who insisted, “No sensible person would have his son come to him and tell him ‘I want to take a knife and kill’, and he will answer him: ‘That’s a wise thing to do, go for it.’ It is not possible. It is not possible. He will take away the knife. Parents do not want this.”
Dayan asked him about the brutal murder of Dafna Meir, who was stabbed to death in January near her home in Otniel by a 15-year-old Palestinian. Abbas blamed it on a state of despair created by Israel.

Abbas reiterates: All of Israel is 'occupation'
By Ari Soffer 4/6/2016
Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas has once again referred to the entire State of Israel as "occupied" territory, highlighting the wide gulf between his rhetoric in Arabic and his image as a moderate within much of the international media.
In an interview with official PA TV in mid-March, translated by Palestinian Media Watch, Abbas echoed similar comments he made late last year by claiming Palestinian Arabs have been "occupied" since 1948 - the date of the State of Israel's founding. Such rhetoric lies in stark contrast to perceptions in the West that Abbas's PA only desires a state in Judea, Samaria and Gaza - territories liberated from Arab rule in 1967.
"We have been under occupation for 67 or 68 years," Abbas said. "Others would have sunk into despair and frustration. However, we are determined to reach our goal because our people stands behind us."
The extent of Abbas's doublespeak is apparent when comparing such statements to the more conciliatory tone he takes when addressing foreign audiences.
One example highlighted by PMW was carried by Al-Hayat Al-Jadida later in March, when Abbas met a delegation of Jews.
"We strive for peace through the establishment of the Palestinian state, which will live in peace and stability alongside Israel," he told them.
