Sadly that's exactly what we do every day here in America, and over most of the world as well. It's not hard to see. The easiest way to see it is to simply check the TV guide for what's on today. Let's only look at the bare basic channels, that everyone would get in a basic package by cable, satellite, or even a good antenna. We won't look at any special channels. What is our viewing pleasure today? What will our children see should they just happen to walk into the room?
Let's see, we can choose from a menu of adultery, premarital sex, homosexuality, transsexuals, bisexuals, orgies, rape, child molestation, masochism, and sadism, just to name a few of the sexual sins we promote and glorify. Or we could watch shows about children born out of wedlock, or divorce, or even revenge. If that's too tame, we can watch shows about murder, abortion, euthanasia, and of course more revenge. They'll often throw in stealing in those shows, or if you prefer one that has stealing as it's main plot, that's not hard to find either.
If we want lighter entertainment, we can watch shows about gossip, especially gossip about some of our idols, stars in today's world. Or there's always the harsher side of gossip, we could watch shows about slander or about people who are false witnesses. There are also plenty of shows available that feature lying to tantalize us. Of course there's plenty of shows that will show us all about any god except the One True God and His Son, Jesus Christ. You can even find shows about Satanism. I don't think there's hardly any show on TV any more that doesn't also freely include plenty of swearing. So we can learn new words and phrases to use, new ways to sin using them.
There's plenty of shows that attack the 5th commandment too - you know, the one that tells us to honor our Mother and Father? Oh yes, lots of shows for that one! They either make the father or mother look like total idiots, or both look that way. They show us how undeserving of honor parents are and how it's so much more fun to disobey them and ridicule them; or at the very least, ignore them. There's also a great many shows that feature coveting, and of course we have lots of commercials too, that encourage us to covet and be unsatisfied with what we have. There's plenty of shows too that encourage the participants to use the other participants and/or pits them against each other, giving the "winner" some great prize they all covet. No godly person could win on any of those shows, that's for sure! As far as the commandment to keep the Sabbath day Holy, that's just a joke these days. There's nothing holy about any day, especially not on any of the TV shows.
Honestly, it's horrifying to me just to read the titles of the shows that are being shown. When I have to see a commercial for one of them, it makes me literally sick to my stomach, so we try to fast forward through all of them so we can avoid it if possible. There are very, very few shows that we will watch, and none of them are "new". They're the old shows that show what life was like back before I was born. Those few shows we watch though aren't perfect by any means. I can still catch a few things wrong on them, but at least they're not shoving sin down my throat and promoting it as good and "normal", or even just as entertainment. Sadly, we've seen them all so many times, that we could probably recite them in our sleep. But it's better then nothing I guess. The attitude in the world today reminds me of what we read in Job: “Will you keep to the old path that evil men have trod? They were carried off before their time, their foundations washed away by a flood. They said to God, ‘Leave us alone! What can the Almighty do to us?’ Yet it was He who filled their houses with good things, so I stand aloof from the counsel of the wicked.” (Job 22:15–18) So they continue to do what Isaiah talks about and call evil good, and good evil, thinking they're so very smart. Again like Isaiah says, they literally parade their sin and no longer bother to hide it, thinking they're more civilized because of it, when in fact they've become only more evil. That's what it was like in Noah's day, and in Lot's day, so we've now come full circle. The Lord indicated it would get so bad that it would be difficult to find true faith in Him on the earth. What with all the false teaching that's overrun every part of life, that too is now true. We've been living in the end times since the Chruch began, but now, now we're living in the last days. Come Soon Lord Jesus!
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20)
“The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.” (Isaiah 3:9)
“The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.” (Genesis 6:5)
““Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.” (Luke 17:26–30)
