I was reading 1 Corinthians 5:1–13 this morning and suddenly realized that after we're saved, when we sin, it not only defiles us, it defiles the Church as well! That realization made me think of Romans 12:4–5: “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” and 1 Corinthians 6:15: “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!” I'd already realized that when I sin, it affects everyone around me, saved and unsaved in some way, whether it's just being a bad witness or that the consequences of my sin harms them as well. And that when I sin, it can lead another person who sees me or hears about it, to do the same thing if they're not strong in their faith. It seems the more the Lord shows me about sin, the more I realize just how horrible any sin is and how adversely it affects me and many others as well.
