A media analyst says he's not surprised that TIME magazine has named Germany's chancellor "Person of the Year."
The magazine sang the praises of Angela Merkel for what they claimed was her leadership on the Greek debt crisis and the surge of Syrian refugees.
The announcement wasn't a surprise, says Dan Gainor of the Media Research Center. That's because the media is "overwhelming one-sided" on the issue of Europe's refugee crisis, he says.
The chancellor fits what TIME was looking for, explains Gainor, which is a politician supporting open borders.
In fact, TIME seemed to agree with that criticism. TIME editor Nancy Gibbs said Merkel deserved the honor "for asking more of her country than most politicians would dare" and for "standing firm against tyranny."
OneNewsNow has written about Europe's immigrant crisis for much of 2015, informing readers that an estimated 10,000 Muslims are flowing into Germany daily. Approximately 1.5 million are expected by the end of the year, and Merkel has publicly said the country cannot stop them.
Germany and other European countries follow the Schengen Agreement, a free-travel policy among the nation that's allowing the migrants free passage.
