Jerusalem Mayor Tells Residents to Carry Guns
October 08, 2015 | Israel Today Staff
The stabbing and other terrorist attacks just keep coming in Jerusalem, causing a great many residents to be fearful of going outdoors at all, and certainly not daring to venture into certain parts of town.
Two Israelis were killed in Jerusalem’s Old City earlier this week, and many more have been stabbed and wounded since them by Arab residents responding to calls by the Palestinian Authority, Hamas and other jihadists to “liberate” the Holy Land from the Jews.
Amidst this escalating situation, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat is urging all licensed residents of his city to carry their guns with them at all times.
That recommendation stands in stark contrast to the gun control movements and policies prevalent in Europe and the United States.
But Barkat knows the value of law-abiding, gun-toting civilians, especially during a time of such troubles.
“Given the current escalation in the security situation, those with a licensed firearm who know what to do with it must go out with [their weapon] - it’s an imperative,” Barkat told Army Radio. “In a way, it’s like military reserve duty.”

More Civilians to Carry Guns as New Law Relaxes Restrictions
By JNS March 31, 2016
“And ye girded on every man his weapons of war, and deemed it a light thing to go up into the hill-country.” Deuteronomy 1:41 (The Israel Bible™)
A bill allowing off-duty security guards in Israel to carry weapons passed its final Knesset readings on Tuesday, with a vote of 21 lawmakers in favor of the measure and eight against it. The proposal, which aims to boost public safety amid the current wave of Palestinian terrorism, was passed as a temporary provision that will be reviewed by the Knesset again in a few months.
The bill, an amendment to Israel’s Firearms Law, effectively reinstated a provision that was repealed in 2013 after several cases in which security guards who had been allowed to take their weapons home killed their spouses. The amendment bars security guards with criminal records, or any history of violence or domestic abuse, from carrying their weapons after hours.
Member of Knesset (MK) Nachman Shai (Zionist Union), who voted in favor of the bill, said, “No one is thrilled by the prospect of people carrying guns on the streets, but in 2016 in Israel this has become a vital need. Deterrence is key, and having trained, licensed individuals carry weapons…will help bolster public security.”

Also from the article: "Israel’s police and army cannot be everywhere at all times, and in the past armed civilians have managed to thwart or cut short what would have otherwise been even more catastrophic terrorist incidents."
Too bad our country doesn't realize that simple fact.
